Country Houses
Everyone likes to look around someone else's home and we are just the same!
There is a wonderful choice of splendid old houses to visit - some are grand but others
tell more about everyday life. Elsewhere you can see both Upstairs and Downstairs.
Tintagel Old Post Office, now owned by the National Trust, was built as a manor house in the 14th century.
For a long time it was a working post office, serving the local village, famous for its connections
with the legendary King Arthur.
Pencarrow House is a classic Georgian home and many of the rooms have a 'homely' touch - especially the
nursery with its children's toys.
Prideaux Place is a stunning Elizabethan house with 81 rooms, 46 of which were
at one time bedrooms! The house and gardens are open to the public. Many films have used
them as a location set
recalling the days of plenty, at least for the rich and famous! Parts of the house have been left as they were
after the US Army occupied then during the war, including the Lance Sgts Mess.
